Affordable Housing for NYC

Learning the Secrets of Affordable Housing

Zen’s Sander Hicks lives and works in this neighborhood. He is on the Democratic Party County Committee, where he was re-elected to represent Election District 9. With DSA, he has endorsed and campaigned for City Council Member Alexa Aviles, and NY State Assembly Member Marcela Mitaynes.

For 5018 4th Ave, Zen has employed and is working with an affordable housing consultant, Mr. Sam Lee, MPA. We have learned about the NMTC (New Market Tax Credits program) and are reaching out to CDEs (Community Development Entities) which receive funds from the NMTC.

New Video Discusses Affordable Housing

In this YouTube, on the right, Sander Hicks and Sam Lee, MPA, have a friendly chat about how to actually create affordable housing, discussing a recent Washington Post article, on the New Market Tax Credit Program, and what we can do in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, to create needed affordable housing.

Our Current Project

We are currently exploring the funding options to purchase and develop 322/324 Shepherd Ave in Brooklyn for an affordable housing project.

Big shout out to the authors of “An Incentive Model for Neighborhood Renewal” an article in the Washington Post.

This was a great story on the New Markets Tax Credits program, and it inspired us to dig deeper. More people should know about these programs- they are a great way to create affordable housing.
