Zen Space Makers recently completed two jobs for BRC, the Bowery Residents Committee. After over 30 years in NYC, we heard all the stereotypes about how homeless shelters are hellish places. But BRC defeats all of those cliches. They run quality facilities for people currently experiencing homelessness, and they also offer quality food service, laundry and job opportunity training. The whole organization is very professionally run. It was a delight to work for them.

We built an entire plexiglass wall, quartz counter-top desk, door and return wall at the grand foyer of the “Blue Sky” facility near LaGuardia Airport. We also installed plexiglass partitions and counter-tops at the BRC facility in Jamaica, Queens.

Founded in 1971, the Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) is just one example of a provider that manages facilities (and a rigorous street outreach program) in partnership with New York City. From BRC's original location on the Bowery, to its new headquarters and vertical campus in Chelsea, the organization has continually adapted to the changing needs and challenges of the community, as well as the individuals being served.
